"Committed. Passionate. Knowledgeable. Patient. This is a small sampling of the words used to describe Emily Chase by the students she's taught at Antaeus Academy. As one of our regular moderators, Emily has proven time and time again her commitment to the craft, and her dedication to our students. She is the creator of one of our more popular classes - Modern Classics."

Deirdre Murphy
Artistic Associate, Antaeus Company

Emily teaches acting to post-graduate professionals at the Antaeus Academy. She has developed and taught such classes as Tennessee Williams: Demons and Angels; Modern Classics; Ring the Rafters: Voice for the Classical Actor; Voice and Shakespeare; and It’s Alive!, in which students learn to work on developing plays with some of Los Angeles’ most innovative theater artists. She has been an Adjunct Professor at USC and a Visiting Professor at U.C. Riverside. She taught Voice for the Classical Actor at A Noise Within Theater Company and acting at AMDA.

Emily created and runs the Drama Department at Shalhevet High School. Every year she directs and produces mainstage productions that range from Shakespeare to modern pieces like METAMORPHOSES. She also annually produces the students’ original plays — shows as diverse as devised works, site-specific plays, and multi-media ten-minute play festivals. Her students work with an exciting variety of established L.A. designers, choreographers, screenwriters, and playwrights.

Emily earned her B.A. in English from U.C. Berkeley, and her MFA in Theater Arts from UCLA.
